How to identify your folding bike model and year

Where to find frame numbers, hinge markings and battery labels so you can order parts with confidence.

Step 1

Start with the frame number

On most folding bikes the frame number is stamped or laser-etched near the bottom bracket, on the rear dropout, or under the main hinge. Fold the bike, stand it upright and photograph the number rather than transcribing it — the characters are small and easy to confuse.

Manufacturers encode the production year in the first characters of the serial. If you have the original receipt or warranty card, the year on that document is usually accurate enough for parts matching.

Step 2

Check the hinge and clamp castings

Folding hardware is the most model-specific part of any folding bike. Look for a raised part number on the hinge body and on the clamp lever. A single-digit revision difference can change clamp geometry, so match the casting number before ordering.

Step 3

Read the battery and controller labels

Electric models carry a printed label on the battery pack listing nominal voltage, capacity in amp-hours and the pack part number. The controller usually carries a matching label under the frame or inside the rear rack.

When ordering electrical spares, voltage and connector type matter more than brand. Note both before you buy.
