E-bike battery care through the seasons
Charging habits, storage temperature and connector hygiene that add years to a battery pack.

Step 1
Charge between 20 and 80 percent for daily use
Lithium packs age fastest at the extremes of their charge range. For everyday commuting, top up to around 80 percent and recharge before the pack drops below 20 percent. Charge fully only before a long ride.
Step 2
Store cool, never cold
Aim for 10 to 20 degrees Celsius at roughly 60 percent charge for storage longer than a month. Avoid unheated sheds in winter: charging a pack below freezing causes permanent capacity loss.
Step 3
Keep connectors dry and clean
Wipe the pack contacts with a dry cloth before mounting, and never pressure-wash near the battery mount or controller. A smear of dielectric grease on the pins helps in wet climates.
